Romans 8:28, which everyone likes to quote, should always be read with v 29..
“We know that in everything God works for the good of those who love him. n They are the people he called, because that was his plan. 29 God knew them before he made the world, and he chose them to be like his Son so that Jesus would be the firstborn
n We … him. Some Greek copies read “We know that everything works together for good for those who love God.” The Everyday Bible : New Century Version. Nashville, TN. : Thomas Nelson, Inc., 2005, S. Ro 8:28-29
That is the main purpose, the reason for our being! We think it’s about our pleasure, our getting what we want, not going thru hard times and if we do it’s so God can bless us on the other side. It’s not about us getting blessed it’s about us being conformed into His image, being like Jesus. Most of us don’t have a clue how this happens, we want INSTANT Christlikeness, without any pain.. But remember His pain, this didn’t come without a huge price. God forgive us for being so callous, uninformed, unaware, ignorant if you will, of what price he paid and what price is required of us. He didn’t pay it just so we could slide into heaven without being changed at all.
The process often is uncomfortable, unpleasant and downright hurtful. But God is with us all the time and He knows we can do it and He is rooting for us the whole time.
This situation we have found ourselves in is not, and has not been, enjoyable but it has been lifechanging and productive in many ways. God uses what the devil meant for evil! I’m so glad my trust is in Him and that even though I fail and I’m not anywhere near perfect, He loves me anyway and I will give Him glory! Dutch Sheets said that there is usually a wilderness experience before revelation, renewal and a turning! That without this His glory would devaste us. I want His glory, no matter the price. [I may need to be reminded of saying this from time to time, depending on how long this process takes. 🙂 ]
