Journey or Destiny

In a blog this week someone mentioned a particular selection in Oswald Chamber’s “My Utmost for His Highest”. I read through this devotional several times but not in a few years so drug it out to read this particular page. It is July 28th and the familiar story about the disciples in a storm and Peter walking on the water.
In our first church, which was a reopen, a minister friend of ours called one day and reminded us of this story and said “You know the disciples were right in the middle of God’s will in the storm.” This has stuck with us and God has reminded us of it many times.

But Oswald Chambers says that “We must never put our dreams of success as God’s purpose for us; His purpose may be exactly the opposite…..What we call the process, God calls the end…. God’s end is to enable me to see that He can walk on the chaos of my life just now.”

This changes the whole perspective of how we look at things. We know life is a journey and sometimes it looks like spaghetti and not a straight line, but that it may be the END? the PURPOSE? It’s not about where I’m going, but who I’m becoming.

On this journey God doesn’t draw us a map or leave bread crumbs, HE BUILDS OUR CHARACTER. Oh, I know, people say the Bible is our road map, but let’s get real, it’s more about building us into who God wants us to be and does not show us a visual map to go over here to Timbuktu, or over there to Talamazoo. It’s about building our core values so we make the right choices and decisions.

So, we’re on this journey to plant a church. It may never be successful by mans standards, but if God is building our character into who He want us to be, then it’s a success.
