hideI’m sure there are different forms and classes of the  Muslim religion, as some seem to be peace loving and disavow the radicalism of the extremist. However, Muslim family honor beliefs are something altogether different.

The book, HIDING in the LIGHT by Rifqa Bary, is not only eye opening as to the Muslim family honor beliefs, but is a story of the spiritual journey of a young girl. I was inspired and in awe of her as she grew in her faith and commitment and ultimately fled for her life.

At the age of twelve she meets a girl who befriends her and invites her to church. For the first time she hears “Jesus love you”, and she begins to believe it. Going against her parents she continues to sneak out to go to church and soon finds the love and acceptance she’s been missing.

As you read her account of the journey it causes you to examine yourself as to whether you have the faith and courage that she did. Sure there were times of fear and doubt, but she never wavered.
