broI have read several books from various author’s about the Amish. Some, I feel do a lot of study and research, even befriending Amish before they write. Some however I’m not sure how much they actually know about them and their culture. I do know the districts vary from each other by their Bishop and their interpretation of the Ordnung. Therefore I am sometimes dubious about the way the Amish are portrayed in some books. This is one I’m not sure of.

HER BROTHER’S KEEPER by Beth Wiseman is a story of an Englischer, Charlotte, investigating her brother’s suicide. Ethan was engaged to an Amish maedel so Charlotte is convinced he was brainwashed and that is the reason for his suicide.

She decides to pretend to be a distant Amish cousin from Texas and visit. She does not predict the ensuing sequence of events that enfold. It is an intriguing story even if I am unconvinced of some of the actions taken.

Overall it was an interesting concept that left many questions as to how it would have all actually have happened had it been real story.

I received this book free from Thomas Nelson Publishing for an honest review.
