AMAZING GRACE, HOW SWEET THE SOUND

newtNewton & Polly by Jody Hedlund is a novel of how John Newton met Polly Catlett. John was a wondering soul, a sailor, who couldn’t seem to fulfill his obligations without some obstacles of his own making. Finally coming to the end of himself he surrenders to God and pens Amazing Grace.

Polly was a distant cousin with a beautiful singing voice that captivated John upon their first meeting. She was raised in a devout God fearing home and strove to please God with her own efforts.

Seven years, various trials, including prison, another man pursing Polly and her fears all come to a head and she has to make a decision. Will she choose love or security?

The books is a work of fiction about some real people, I found it intense but inspiring and hopeful.

I received a free copy from WaterBrook Publishing. No review, positive or otherwise, was required – all opinions are my own.
